Weddings

Unitarians believe in freedom of thought and freedom of conscience. We consider that special occasions to mark life’s turning points should reflect the beliefs and values of the individuals concerned.

Our minister is registered for the celebration of marriages, including same sex marriages.

We encourage couples to help plan their own ceremony, choosing music, readings and a form of words, to reflect their beliefs, and to create a joyous and memorable occasion.

Same-sex marriage

Unitarians led the way in marrying those who had previously been married and actively campaigned for same sex marriage. We were the first denomination in Scotland to conduct same sex marriages in our churches. All we ask is that a couple be truly committed to each other.
